While it makes sense that Google’s Web Search is customized for various countries and regions around the world – e.g., Google.ca serves up search results that are most relevant for Canadian users – there may be times when you want to broaden your search and use the Google.com site.
If you’ve ever tried to do this simply by typing “google.com” into the browser bar and hitting the enter key, you know this doesn’t work.
Here are three tips that can help you use a different Google site, no matter where in the world you are:
- Click on the Google.com link on any other domain
- Visit the Language Tools page (the section with the flags) and manually select a Google domain*
- Enter http://www.google.com/ncr into the browser bar (you may want to bookmark it) – it’s an alternative address for Google.com and will always take you to Google.com without redirecting you*
If none of these tips helps, Google may be detecting your IP address incorrectly. If so, let them know about the issue (it may take a month for them to resolve the issue).
